What this painting is about:

“Don’t be too loud. Don’t be too emotional. Don’t be too much.”
“Don’t cry. Don’t be weak. Man up.”
Girls and boys often grow up hearing different messages, but both can learn the same painful lesson: that certain parts of who they are should remain hidden.
Women may learn to make themselves smaller, while men may learn to hide their vulnerability. Over time, we can lose touch with parts of ourselves because we are taught that they are unwanted, inappropriate or weak.
I imagined a little story about this:
A little fairy found a peaceful place where her soul was finally allowed to become still. Surrounded by gently moving leaves, grass, and flowers, she felt something inside her begin to open. The parts she had hidden slowly became visible: her quiet, wild, gentle, vulnerable, and hopeful sides. In that moment, she understood that she was made up of many different parts, light and depth, longing and peace, strength and vulnerability. None of them needed to be hidden. They were all allowed to exist. 🧚♀️
I believe it is the same for us, both women and men. We can take a walk in nature, visit a place we love, and take a moment just for ourselves. 🙏
In those quiet moments, we can acknowledge every part within us, the vulnerable ones, the darker ones, the soft ones, and the wild ones. We can look inward and discover who we truly are, rather than trying to become what we have been told we should be.
We are not objects that have to fit perfectly into society. We are souls, and we should be allowed to feel, grow, and express ourselves.
In this painting, I portrayed the soul and its connection to nature, at least, the way I imagine it. 🌿
